FlexFlooring Ltd Transform Guildford Lido’s Paddling Pools

Flexflooring Ltd has been heavily involved in refurbishing two paddling pools at Guildford Lido ready for the expected long hot summer!  The Lido, owned by Guildford Borough Council and operated by Spectrum , is set in four and a half acres of landscaped gardens and includes a 50 x 27 metre Olympic sized heated swimming pool, plus two children’s paddling pools, each one an impressive 33 metres long and 3.6 metres wide.

This project was a major milestone for Flexflooring, as it is the first UK installation to include both Rubbaflex and UltraTUFF™.  With Rubbaflex installed as the perfect non-slip paddling pool surround and UltraTUFF Pool and Deck Coating installed as a non-slip, non-porous product on the floor of the paddling pool.

Guildford Lido, before work is startedSurface preparation is always a key element to the success of any project and in this instance included removing the old rubber surround and tiles before diamond grinding the paddling pool floors to ensure a smooth surface key for the UltraTUFF™.

Rubbaflex surround installed at Guildford Lido Flexflooring took a week to complete this phase before moving on to installing over 300m² of Rubbaflex.  The colour chosen for the pool surround was a mixture of yellow, orange and white, which created a clear contrast to the colours used within the pool.

Another key benefit of Rubbaflex is that it can be installed both vertically as well as horizontally, so Flexflooring also used this product to cover a number of steps around the paddling pools.  Flexflooring always incorporate a special UV resistant resin binder to reduce any colour change to their Rubbaflex floors.

Rubbaflex Pool surround and UltraTUFF in Safety Yellow and Waterpark BlueSpraying 2nd coat of UltraTUFFThe final stage of the project was to spray over 250m² of UltraTUFF™ onto the paddling pool steps and floors.  This stage included the application of a primer and the masking up of edges to ensure smooth finish is maintained between the UltraTUFF™ and Rubbaflex.  Two coats were applied using an airless sprayer leaving a bright surface, which in this instance was completed in two colours; Safety Yellow for the step and Waterpark Blue for the pool floors.

Design work in UltraTUFFStingray design in UltraTUFF Brick RedThe final finishing touch was to incorporate some simple design work to the pool floors showing a number of sea creatures in contrasting colours including a starfish, shark and stingray!

The overall effect completely rejuvenates the paddling pool area leaving it much safer underfoot.  The use of three distinct colours helps to clearly separate the surround from the pool step and pool floor thereby ensuring users clearly see the step when entering and leaving the pool and finally the addition of the sea creatures creates added interest for the children using the pools.

Flexflooring Safety Surfacing at Peppa Pig World

Working in conjunction with Sunsafe Waterplay for Paultons Park, Flexflooring Ltd’s safety surfacing creates a stunning rainbow pathway threading throughout the new attraction for 2011; Peppa Pig World.

Peppa Pig Rainbow Pathway 001
Whilst we usually recommend blending colours, this bold design called for strong single colours.  The rainbow pathway is created one colour at a time, starting with 100% red.  The first colour is trowelled up to a wooden edge to ensure a clean finish to the pathway.

Subsequent colours are hand trowelled using the edge of the previous colour to trowel up to.

The pathway neatly finishes at the interactive splash pad surface, also installed by Flexflooring.

The finished pathway creates a stunning rainbow effect that brightens up the entire area.

Flexflooring Safety Surfacing at Gheluvelt Park Splash Pad

Working in conjunction with Ustigate Waterplay for Worcester City Council, Flexflooring Ltd’s safety surfacing completes the natural looking interactive water feature.  The project provided some unique challenges, given the inclusion of numerous rock formations and a softly undulating surface. However, uneven surfaces and irregular shapes pose no problem for our Rubbaflex surface system as it is hand trowelled by our team of experienced installers and can be trowelled around any object, leaving a smooth, seam free finish.

In order to install our surface, new concrete is prepared and areas are marked out ready for each of the 3 colour mixes used.

In a change from the more usual choice of blues and yellows for Splash pad surfaces, the colours used within this installation are made up of more neutral blends.  Starting at the top end of the Splash pad, the first colour mix installed is called Andalucía and is a mix of equal parts white, beige, and dark grey.

The second colour is then installed, this consists of 100% brown, which creates a strong contrast against the Andalucía.

The addition of the final colour combination of Beach (white and yellow) finishes off the subtle colour scheme.  The overall effect, along with the rocks and jets is stunning.

Flexflooring Rubbaflex Pool Surround at Woodgreen Lido

Working in conjunction with Leadbitter Construction for Parkwood Community Leisure, Flexflooring Ltd’s Rubbaflex Pool Surround creates a safe and stylish finish around the refurbished Lido and newly installed splash pad.

Key to any successful installation is the preparation of the substrate.  Flexflooring took a total of 2 weeks to prepare the surface and in this instance the team undertook diamond grinding of the new concrete pad to ensure a strong key.

Brickyard Farm Preperation

A total of 994m² of Rubbaflex pool surround was installed.  Flexflooring included a special UV resistant aliphatic polyurethane resin to minimize colour change.  The pool surround is finished in Jazz, a unique colour mix.

Other areas have been completed in Andalucía; a popular colour mix consisting of equal parts dark grey, white and beige.

Steps were finished in red as a safety feature.

The new Splash pad has been finished in red and Jazz.

On completion, our Rubbaflex safety surfacing creates a low maintenance surface that greatly enhances the overall look of the entire outdoor area, whilst reducing dramatically the number of minor accidents.

Flexflooring Golf Pathways and Design work at Shirley Park Golf Club

Working for Shirley Park Golf Club, Flexflooring Ltd’s safety surfacing has helped transform a number of pathways and the logo at the first tee and Pro Shop provides an eye-catching focal point.

Flexflooring has worked with Shirley Park for a number of years to improve pathways across the course.  On the sloping pathways of the 8th and 9th tees, we installed our Rubbaflex safety surfacing onto a concrete sub-base (compulsory on slopes) at an average of 15mm.

Plain black EPDM is a popular colour choice.

Our safety surfacing has also been installed on steps up to the first tee.

A unique aspect of this installation is the inclusion of a 3m x 3m full colour logo at the first tee.

The intricate design work and lettering of the logo is captured perfectly by our skilled tradesmen.
