Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround Advice and Maintenance

Please find below information on cleaning and maintaining both ‘FG’ and ‘SG’ Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround.

Before                                     Lather                           After

After the installation of your ‘SG’ or ‘FG’ Poolsafe rubber pool surround various ongoing maintenance should be considered in line with normal housekeeping guidelines to ensure the maximum life expectancy and attractiveness of the rubber flooring. As the rubber surfacing is made from a tough EPDM rubber granule and a urethane resin, many years of trouble-free life can be expected providing the guidelines below are adhered to:

1. Regular cleaning with a wet vacuum system and a stiff nylon brush or rotary cleaner will assist in resisting the build up of natural calcium deposits which would be highlighted by white tide marks especially in hard water areas. If this problem persists consideration should be given to the installation of a water softener. Do not use a wire brush. Alternatively we recommend consideration be given to the AquaKLEAR electronic water treatment system which will help reduce cleaning time and will greatly enhance the quality of water plus added benefits such as less use of chlorine, less chlorine smell, reduced backwashing and the elimination of the need for coagulants.

2. In indoor areas, which have poor ventilation and restricted natural drainage, algae mould growth can occur, for example near window areas. We also suggest Poolsafe Rubber Cleaning Detergent, which is especially suitable for removing skin cells/body fats from either the ‘SG’ or ‘FG’ Rubber Pool Surround. This can be obtained through Poolsafe Ltd. Alternatively, if you wish to remove visible calcium or lime scale deposits, we recommend Bonaclean from Bonasystems Ltd on 01442 419 470.

3. With all Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround surfaces great care should be taken to ensure that the pool temperature does not exceed the air temperature, as this can promote fungal bacterial growth on your rubber flooring. If this contamination has occurred the use of chlorinated pool water will help to kill off the active bacteria providing the waste and residue is Wet-Vac’d and disposed of safely.

4. It is essential that at no time acid either from chlorine cleaning or similar should be spilt onto the Poolsafe surface, as this will permanently bleach areas of contact.

5. Regular power washing is recommended for inside or outside installations, but care should be taken that the pressure used should not exceed 1500 PSI.

6. Remove puddles of standing water on uneven surfaces by sweeping or by using a wet/dry vacuum, in order to reduce the risk of staining the rubber flooring or the promotion of algae growth.

7. ‘Shower off’ areas should be isolated from the main pool hall to reduce the risk of body contaminants being carried through to the porous rubber flooring system.

Important notice
a. When using MDI Urethane resin, colours such as eggshell and beige can have a yellow tinge to the finished installation, which is caused by an ultra violet light reaction to the resin used.

b. Our Special Grade resin has been specifically designed to be more ultra violet resistant and therefore light colours will be more apparent with very little natural fading when subjected to ultra violet exposure.

c. With the use of light colours such as Eggshell and Beige the client should be aware that where evidence of chlorine vapour is present, and if the concentration is allowed to exceed the permitted level, chlorine vapour will attack and discolour the surface on a progressive basis.

Caution
At no time should a wire brush or aggressive mechanical device be used, as this will cause permanent damage to the rubber flooring. At no time, or for whatever reason, should chlorine bleach be used as this could cause permanent staining.
