Case Study & Recent Jobs

Over the past eight years Poolsafe Ltd has installed a vast square meterage of rubber flooring in many different applications and areas. These range from public play grounds and holiday parks to driving ranges and commercial and domestic swimming pools throughout the UK. Poolsafe Ltd has also set up a small operation in Javea, Spain, and numerous jobs have been completed in the past year. We have also done selected work for a client in Slovakia.

Below you can see a detailed case study of a recent project as well as a brief outline of some of our past jobs that give a good indication of the diversity of work that Poolsafe Ltd is capable of.

CASE STUDY:

ALZACH SWIMMING POOLS, OSWESTRY SHROPSHIRE

The Brief
To convert existing farm buildings into a gym and pool hall including reception area, changing rooms and an office for use by members of the public on a time share basis.

The Project
Poolsafe Ltd supplied and installed 216m² of Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround onto a newly laid screed for the new development throughout the pool hall and into four changing rooms.

Why our flooring?
Discussions with the architect highlighted the need for a floor that is:
- low maintenance
- non-slip
- soft and warm under foot
- able to give the ‘wow-factor’

Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround can answer yes to all of the above!

To really ensure the wow factor was achieved, a stylish skirting was installed in the same material as the rubber flooring throughout. To give a clean line and defined finish to the top of the skirting, a 6 mm tile beading strip was put on to the wall to work up to.

Colour
A 70:30 mix of bright red and yellow was chosen for both the floor and the skirting to beautifully complement the current colour scheme.

The Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround flooring system
‘FG’ Grade Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround was used as the granules are so fine (0.5-1.5mm), it is virtually nonporous and it is dust free.
- Sourced from one of the top three world producers
- Mixed with a special grade polyurethane resin (with excellent light stable properties and flexibility over a long period of time)
- Quick curing time - the floor can be walked on the next day

Rubber floors in the changing rooms were sealed allowing this area to be washed down regularly (given the high foot traffic and toilet and shower facilities).

The Installation
The total floor area was 216 m² and split equally between the pool hall and the changing rooms. The total linear meterage of the skirting was 114 m.

Day 1: Floor area laid to ensure it would be ready for an open day two days later.
Day 2: The skirting was completed.
Day 3: The changing rooms were sealed.
Day 4: The whole area was ready for use by the general public.

RECENT JOBS

Poolsafe Ltd are delighted to announce that they were part of the winning team that created the winning pool in the Refurbishment category of the 2006 Pool & Spa Industry Awards, www.bspf.org.uk/. This was for the refurbishment of the outdoor pool at Claires Court School, www.clairescourt.com/, which gave the school pupils an all year round facility under a magnificent pool enclosure by Arqualand, www.arqualand.co.uk/. Easy Pools, www.easypools.co.uk/, were the contractors and Poolsafe Ltd supplied and installed 120 m² of our porous ‘SG’ Grade Rubber Pool Surround in Coral Reef (equal quantities of sky blue, beige and eggshell) with a striking orange safety line and orange safety lettering.

The rejuvenated Romsey Rapids water and leisure centre in Romsey, Hampshire, www.the-rapids.co.uk/, contracted Poolsafe Ltd to install and supply 120 m² of our porous ‘SG’ Grade Rubber Pool Surround. Our slip-resistant rubber flooring was installed around the children’s swimming pool as well as around a buccaneer pirate ship, alligator and imitation rock work in the water adventure play area! It was a refurbishment so the flooring was laid on to existing tiling which had to be hand prepared to provide a suitably roughened base for the rubber pool flooring system. They chose the Coral Reef mix (equal quantities of sky blue, beige and eggshell) and part of the rubber flooring had a sealed surface as added protection against ingrained dirt and for easier maintenance and cleaning.

Poolsafe Ltd was very pleased to be asked to install 110 m² of our porous ‘SG’ Grade Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround in the popular Coral Reef (equal quantities of sky blue, beige and eggshell) for the West Ham footballer, Christian Dailly. He wanted a safe and attractive rubber floor finish for his new build indoor swimming pool to prevent slip accidents with his young family.

Poolsafe Rubber Pools Surround porous ‘SG’ Grade was installed around an outdoor pool in Javea in Spain on to a 170 m² porous marble surface which was proving to be very slippery when wet and exceptionally hot underfoot. Toulon (equal mixture of red, beige and gold) was selected to blend in with the surrounding natural sandstone and traditional Spanish house colours. The net result is that the clients find the slip-resistant properties that they now have with their new rubber floor, coupled together with a cooler and softer feeling on their bare feet, makes swimming on hot days a joy.

The prestigious Celtic Manor in Newport, South Wales, www.celtic-manor.com, asked Poolsafe Ltd to help with the refurbishment of their male and female changing rooms which are adjacent to the pool hall. They chose 120 m² of our new virtually nonporous ‘FG’ Grade Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround in a dark grey with a sealed surface for easy cleaning and maintenance.

The excellent Sundridge Park Golf Club in Bromley, Kent, www.spgc.co.uk, have been clients of Poolsafe Ltd for three years, supplying us with three separate contracts for over 1000 m² of Rubbaflex ‘GP’, including the downhill pathway to the 18th hole, pathways around the practise green and clubhouse and associated access pathways. In each instance the Rubbaflex ‘GP’ was laid on to a concrete sub-base with a green and black speckled finish.

The lovely Ulwell Cottage Caravan Park in Dorset, www.ulwellcottagepark.co.uk, asked us to install 210 m² of our virtually nonporous ‘FG’ Grade Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround indoors in their main hall (45% sky blue, 10% royal blue and 45% bright green) and changing room (50% dark green, 25% white and 25% bright green). This particular site had an existing porous rubber pool surround installed approximately 15 years ago and our brief included removing the existing flooring before work could begin.

Private clients Mr & Mrs Stephenson from Northumberland contracted Poolsafe Ltd to supply and install 100 m² of our porous ‘SG’ Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround around a new build indoor pool. They requested a grey border around the pool in a single colour and the rest of the rubber flooring was done in a custom mix of 50% eggshell, 30% red and 20% grey.

Mr and Mrs Hunt of Royden asked Poolsafe Ltd to install our virtually nonporous ‘FG’ Grade Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround around their new indoor pool and in their shower / changing rooms for their private swimming school run by Mrs Hunt. They had a glass pool enclosure installed by Azure Pools, www.azure-pools.co.uk, and Poolsafe Ltd installed 125 m² of flooring in a custom mixed colour (40% Eggshell, 40% Beige and 20% gold).

Poolsafe Ltd laid 100 m² of Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing at the vibrant Trevu Centre at Cambourne in Cornwall, www.surestarttrevu.co.uk. All preparation work was carried out by R A Gribble, a local family building contractor and Poolsafe supplied and installed the slip-resistant safety surfacing in a 50:50 mix of black and green granules at a depth of 40 mm.

Waldegrave Park Holiday Park, www.waldegraves.co.uk, is located on the peaceful and unspoilt Mersea Island in Essex. They contracted Poolsafe Ltd to install a colourful 165 m² of Rubbaflex ‘GP’ in their new build driving range with the walkways in red and the driving ranges in green with a yellow front band. The rubber flooring was laid on to concrete with the driving mats laid loosely on top.

They also wanted to upgrade their outdoor pool surround with our Poolsafe Rubber Pool Surround in the ‘SG’ Grade.

Poolsafe Ltd was asked by Boughton Monchelsea Parish Council in Kent to give their playground a colourful facelift. The job required uplifting the existing rubber tiles, installing new edgings where required and the supply and installation of 300 m² of in situ Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing. The end result included full coloured wear pads as well as a full colour ‘splash’ finish to the rubber flooring of their multiplay equipment.
