1. What is Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing?

The Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing system is an in situ wet pour safety rubber flooring. It can be made up of two layers - a base layer of larger rubber granules designed to act as a spring or absorbent mattress if required and a smaller EPDM-based granule finish with a higher adhesive content which works as the protective wearing course.

Where major wear areas are encountered, for example under items of play equipment like swing bases, slides, fireman's poles etc, we recommend the installation of full colour EPDM rubber wear pads.

2. Where can you install Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing?
Rubbaflex Safety Surfaces can be installed either on an existing hard base such as concrete or macadam or on a level green field site which will involve excavation, drainage (laying 75mm to 100 mm of compacted stone) fitting an adequate edge board then pouring on the rubber flooring to the required depth.

3. How deep does Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing need to be?
If the Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing is to be laid under high equipment like climbing frames or swings etc then Poolsafe recommends that the depth of the safety surfacing should accommodate the appropriate Critical Fall Height. If, however, the area to be covered is purely a run-around play area then the thickness should be laid at 15-20 mm (a single layer) on to a hard surface or at a minimum of 40 mm on to a compressed stone base.

4. Can I install Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing myself?
Poolsafe recommends that you use our team of experienced and expert tradesmen to install this rubber flooring for a professional finish.  However, if you are looking for a slip-resistant D.I.Y. product we recommend that you visit the Poolsafe Rubbaflex Rubber-on-a-Roll web page for more information.

5. What colours and designs are available for Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing?
As well as the obvious black, Poolsafe also provides a range of 18 base colours ensuring a fun and distinctive finish, for example black with a coloured fleck or a full coloured EPDM surface finish where required. Numbers, letter and various graphics and play schemes can be incorporated for fun or to help as a visual teaching aid during playtime. Please visit the Poolsafe Designs page for examples.

6. How long does Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing take to install?
When the installation has been completed Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing would normally be ready to use in 48 hours.

7. What are the Quality and Safety Standards of Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing?
Rubbaflex Safety Surfaces meet strict safety standards and comply with the requirements of EN 1177:1998. This covers resistance to abrasive wear, slip resistance, ease of ignition, resistance to indentation, tensile properties and includes a scale of Critical Fall Height values.

8. How should I clean and maintain Rubbaflex Safer Surfacing?
Rubbaflex Safety Surfaces require minimal upkeep and power washing is usually adequate for black-based surfaces. However it is recommended that Rubbaflex cleaning detergent is used periodically on the rubber flooring in order to maintain the Critical Fall Height and coloured nature of the surface. If you need to do a spring clean please contact the office for assistance.
